History

Collège du Saint Esprit was officially established in January 1938 by the Fathers of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit. Its origins trace back to 1920 with the founding of the ‘Séminaire Père Laval’, followed by the creation of ‘le Collège Père Laval’ in 1926, where priests served as teachers. However, due to a shortage of clergy, the college ceased operations until it was revived in 1938 under its current name.

In 1950, the college celebrated a major milestone with its first laureate, Roland Lamusse. Leadership of the institution evolved over the years, with l’Abbé Adrien Wiehe becoming the first Mauritian rector in 1972. A shift toward secular administration began in 1976, starting with Mr. Cyril Leckning as rector. He was followed by Mr. Raymond Rivet in 1987, Mr. Georges Ho Wan Kau in 1995, and Mr. Jacques Malie in 2000.
